William George and Nellie Perkins founded the business in Northampton at the beginning of 1919. William, originally a market gardener from the vale of Evesham, found himself in Northampton after being demobbed from the Worcestershire Regiment on returning from the Great War. Over the decades, a network of friendly retail outlets was developed supplying quality fruit, vegetables, flowers and floristry at competitive prices. The Perkins Family continued solely as retailers well into the early 1980's when they expanded into the growing catering industry.
The wholesale and distribution side of the business has now moved to large purpose built premises offering the discerning caterer a comprehensive and diverse range of products from cheese and dairy, flowers and floristry through to mayonnaise and cooking oils, in addition to the core business of fresh fruit and vegetables. A skilled team of sales staff order pickers and drivers combined with a fleet of refrigerated vehicles offer next day delivery of an ever-expanding product range.
